Initiative to help keep our local children safe on their journey to school

Road Safety

Encouraging our local children to walk and cycle to and from school has known health and environmental benefits. However, as identified by our readers, our local roads are getting busier and the dark winter mornings and evenings all increase the risk of safe passage.

Consultation with local schools identified a need for high vis items tailored to the appropriate age groups which they are not able to fund from their school budgets. At The Village Magazine we are all about supporting the community and with this in mind, The Village Magazine would like to help by donating to local schools a high vis vest for each YR-2 pupil and reflector badges for Y3-6 pupils. We would work with schools and Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s).

The aim of this initiative is with further education the wearing of high-vis items could become the ‘norm’ and continue into adulthood helping to keep our community safer on the roads in years to come.

We have currently set up a ‘JustGiving’ page, so that we, along with other members of the community can donate to this very important cause. We feel very passionate about the safety of our children.  You can help us by donating and sharing the details of our project to all your family and friends’ to help us reach our target in helping to keep our local children as safe as we can.
