Sonnar rode regularly as a child, on Hayling Island and on Thorney Island. He did a lot of showing in his early teens and competed all over the country.

After he left school he worked for a showing producer in Ascot where he saw someone doing some Dressage and from there he was inspired, knowing that was his calling.

He went onto work in the industry for professional riders and then went to work for Jennie Loriston-Clarke. He went from nothing to riding at Prix St George level and got onto the squad for under 21’s in two years.

Then Sonnar was involved in a car accident. He had multiple lower limb fractures and was told he’d never be able to ride to that level again, his dreams shattered. It took 4 years and 14 operations to fix his legs, but he took one day at a time and is now back riding professionally full time.

Sonnar is now part of the Podium Potential for the World Class Programme funded by UK Sport. This is where riders get selected for the British team so we are very lucky to have him!
