2020 has been an eventful year for the Chichester Music Society, formerly Funtington Music Group. Founded in 1992 by Robert Headley at his Funtington home, the group has been holding its meetings at the University since 2004. A motion to formally change our name to Chichester Music Society was overwhelmingly supported by members at this year’s AGM. The aim and traditions of the group remain unchanged – to provide members with excellent musical performance and the opportunity to extend their musical knowledge and understanding, and to support the musical careers of students at the University. Since 2004 over £90,000 has been awarded in prizes, musical instruments and bursaries.
Like all performing arts organisations, this year has been particularly difficult for CMS. The first half of our season was cut short by the pandemic and a number of concerts were cancelled or postponed. When the second half of the season opened in September, we were fortunate to have the support of the University who have provided a free live streaming service for all of our events. This has enabled members and friends to enjoy our concerts at home. Live streamed events will continue to be available next year. See website for details www.chichestermusicsociety.org .
The 2021 season continues our tradition of providing members with excellent lecture/recitals. We are delighted to welcome back some old friends like the Continuum Baroque quartet and Ensemble Reza (photo attached) and introducing some new ones. Please email us at email@example.com for a copy of our new programme.
