 A SPECIAL WELCOME THIS YEAR

We have had our fingers crossed…and it seems the world has indeed turned and we are in the wonderful position of being able to visit each other, celebrate and share our creativity.

So please revel in the art that has been made during this past extraordinary year. It may have emerged, hard won, from difficult times or from a creative spark that has been a life-line to its creator. One thing is certain, we have all missed the opportunity to share everything we have made in isolation and so your visits to our workplaces this year, are all the more welcome!

Each Venue will have measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors, in compliance with current Covid regulations.

Chichester Open Studios Art Trail is now a traditional and very popular event attracting  a devoted art-loving audience. Our widespread artists are divided into Peninsula, Regis, City, Downs, Harbour andOnline Trails. Explore one Trail at a time, or hop around the Venues as you choose. This is the opportunity to enjoy the art and hospitality of our talented local artists for 4 summer days in July.

In the Online Trail you can see the art of those artists who are unable to open their Venues this year. They are included in the Trail Guide and on the website and will be pleased to hear from you to arrange a visit at a future date.

What is the Art Trail?

For the visitor the Art Trail gives the annual occasion to plan days out visiting Venues and talking with local artists. It is the chance to see all kinds of art in the making, and to view and purchase original works of art.

For the artist the Art Trail is a well-established framework of organisation and publicity that supports those who live and work in and around Chichester. It is an unparalleled opportunity to present artwork to an enthusiastic and purchasing public.

What is an Open Studio Trail?

Chichester’s Open Studios Trail is an experience in itself. It offers the exciting invitation to see an artist’s work in the context of its creation. With work as varied and individual as each artist who makes it, there is something to suit every taste. There may be demonstrations, a chance to have a go or information about events or courses.

“The different styles and media are so interesting. The friendliness of the artists and the time they gave their visitors was lovely; their enthusiasm and skills amazing!”

Planning your own Trail

The Trail Guide, with its maps showing Venue locations and a profile of each artist, helps visitors choose who to visit and the route to take. Guides are available from Pallant House Gallery, the Oxmarket, the Novium, Chichester Library and other central locations, from mid June onwards. Each artist will have some Guides at their Venue during the Trail.

The Art Trail Hub will be open at Courtyard Studios, Chilgrove PO18 9HP
