Beat Nuisance Calls

West Sussex Trading Standards are offering to install a call blocking device for local residents that meet certain criteria in a bid to stop nuisance and scam calls. The device is free of charge.

The device is said to block up to 98% of nuisance calls and can be applied for by relatives, carers or friends of those who meet the criteria.

To apply for a callblocker residents need to:

• Live in West Sussex
• Regularly receive scam and nuisance calls
• Have care needs (due to age, mobility or mental health)

David Barling, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “Callblockers can help us to protect our most vulnerable residents from becoming victims of unscrupulous individuals.

“While the Telephone Preference Service can be useful, these callblockers are proven to be the most effective way of preventing scam calls.”

Richard Sargeant, Trading Standards Team Manager, said: “These callblockers assist us in identifying and tackling rogue businesses who make thousands of pounds from ripping people off.

“We only have limited numbers of these callblockers so will have to prioritise our installations to those most vulnerable and at risk, but please do get in touch for advice and support.”
